Curaçao is 8,800 km from Amsterdam and about as different as a place can get. Turquoise water, 32°C, UNESCO-listed streets, and 70-plus dive sites waiting offshore. Corendon flies there non-stop from Schiphol in August from €246 one way.

💰 How far does your money go?
Curaçao is not the cheapest Caribbean island, but it's far from the most expensive. A rum punch at a beach bar costs around €5. A full sit-down lunch at a local restaurant runs €12–€15. For comparison, a pint on a Leidseplein terrace in Amsterdam costs €8. In Curaçao, €8 gets you a cocktail and a sea view.
☀️ The weather
August in Curaçao is consistently warm. Daytime temperatures reach 32°C, dropping to 26°C at night, with nine hours of sunshine on most days. Sea temperature holds at 28°C all month. Expect brief tropical showers on around eight days. They pass quickly and rarely disrupt plans. The island sits outside the main hurricane belt, so conditions are more stable than much of the Caribbean.
🏨 Where to stay
Willemstad has options at every level, from dive-focused boutique hotels to private-beach resorts.

🎯 What to do
Curaçao is more than beaches, though the beaches are exceptional.
Willemstad city walk: The pastel-coloured colonial waterfront is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk across the Queen Emma pontoon bridge, explore the Floating Market, and eat your way through Punda and Otrobanda.
Diving at the Mushroom Forest: Over 70 dedicated dive sites ring the island. The Mushroom Forest, named for its coral formations, is one of the most photogenic in the Caribbean. Divers fly here specifically for this.
Klein Curaçao day trip: An uninhabited island 10km offshore with white sand, zero facilities, and some of the clearest water in the region. Sea turtles nest here. The boat trip takes about two hours each way.
Hato Caves: Limestone caves on the north side of the island with stalactites, a natural pool, and colonies of long-nosed bats. More interesting than it sounds. Guide tours run daily.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Curaçao is one of the ABC islands. Bonaire and Aruba are both within easy reach.
Bonaire: 30 minutes by plane. Known as Diver's Paradise, with the Bonaire National Marine Park protecting some of the healthiest coral reefs in the Caribbean.
Aruba: 30 minutes by plane. Eagle Beach and Palm Beach are two of the most-photographed stretches of sand in the Caribbean. Calm, crystal-clear water and virtually no rain year-round.
Non-stop routes at this price from Amsterdam to the Caribbean are rare. August dates are already limited. Check availability before they go.
