💰 How far does your money go?
A shawarma from a local spot costs 5 AED, around €1.20. A full meal at a neighbourhood eatery runs 25–35 AED, roughly €6–9. That is less than a coffee and a pastry at a Copenhagen bakery. Alcohol is only served at licensed venues and priced accordingly, but food is where Dubai surprises most visitors from Scandinavia.
☀️ The weather
Dubai in January sits between 18°C overnight and 25°C in the afternoon, with almost no rain and clear skies from end to end. February is a degree warmer on average. Both months are as close to perfect as outdoor weather gets. It is not by chance that this is Dubai's busiest season.
🏨 Where to stay
Downtown Dubai and Old Dubai both work well as a base.
Rove Downtown Dubai — 8.3/10 · From €65/night Five-minute walk from Dubai Mall, directly below the Burj Khalifa. Clean, compact rooms and a rooftop pool. Strong value in a prime location.
Hilton Dubai Creek — 8.7/10 · From €120/night Glass-fronted four-star on the waterfront in Deira. Rooms face the creek, service is reliable, and it puts you close to the spice and gold souks.
Atlantis The Palm — 9.0/10 · From €280/night Beach access, a 17-hectare waterpark, and restaurants across every category. One of the most recognised resort hotels in the world.
🎯 What to do
Dubai moves fast. Give it a few days and it starts to make sense.
Desert safari — Head out at dusk for dune bashing in the red sand, camel rides, and a traditional camp dinner under the stars. The landscape is the opposite of everything else about the city.
Al Fahidi historical neighbourhood — Narrow lanes, wind towers, and the original Dubai Museum inside a fort that dates to 1787. The contrast with the towers 10 minutes away is hard to overstate.
Burj Khalifa — Book the At The Top observation deck at Level 124 or 125. The views across the city, the desert, and the Gulf are what most photos of Dubai are taken from.
Dubai Creek dhow cruise — Board a traditional wooden dhow at dusk and take a slow loop past the old city waterfront. One of the few experiences in Dubai with no time pressure.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Dubai connects easily to some genuinely remote corners of the Gulf.
Abu Dhabi — 1.5 hours by road. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque alone is worth the trip, with the Louvre Abu Dhabi adding another reason to go.
Musandam Peninsula, Oman — 3 hours by car. Dramatic fjords carved into the Hajar Mountains, known locally as the Norway of Arabia.
Hatta — 1.5 hours into the Hajar Mountains. Rock pools, a mountain dam, and hiking trails. A total change of pace from the coast.
Sharjah — 30 minutes from central Dubai. Traditional souks, an arts district, and an old city heritage area worth a half-day.
Norwegian Air's non-stop routes from Copenhagen fill quickly in peak season. January and February are Dubai at its best: check the dates and book.
