Norse Atlantic flies non-stop from Gatwick to Orlando with return prices from £294. October and November are two of the best times to visit: crowds thin out after summer, hotel prices drop, and the weather in Florida is still warm without the brutal August humidity.

💰 How far does your money go?

A sit-down meal at a local American diner costs around $15 per person, similar to a pub lunch back home but with considerably larger portions. A six-pack from Walmart or Publix runs about $8. Where Orlando genuinely wins is on scale: an all-day Universal Studios ticket starts at around $109 (about £85), which gets you 12 hours of rides for roughly what a London gig costs. November also brings some of the lowest hotel prices of the year across the city.

☀️ The weather

October in Orlando averages a high of 29°C. The rainy season is winding down by then: brief afternoon showers are possible but they clear fast and rarely disrupt outdoor plans. November is better still. Temperatures settle around 25°C, humidity drops and the dry season begins in earnest. It is consistently one of the most pleasant months to be in Florida.

🏨 Where to stay

International Drive and Lake Buena Vista are the main hotel corridors, both well-placed for the parks and restaurants.

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Orlando International Drive – 8.1/10 · From $75/night A solid budget option on I-Drive with a pool, free breakfast included and straightforward access to Universal.

Pestana Orlando Suites – Lake Buena Vista – 9.0/10 · From $100/night Suite-style rooms with kitchens and a pool, 2.9 miles from Disney Springs. Guests consistently rate the space and value highly.

Villatel Orlando Resort – 9.4/10 · From $150/night Villa-style accommodation near Universal with private pools and resort amenities. Rated among the best properties in the city.

🎯 What to do

Orlando rewards those who look beyond the parks, but the parks are genuinely good.

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal – Universal's annual October event fills the park with haunted houses, scare zones and live shows after dark. Running on select nights through the end of October, it is one of the best Halloween events anywhere in the world.

EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival – Running at Disney's EPCOT from August through mid-November, the festival features food and drinks from dozens of countries around the park. Worth a visit even if you have done Disney before.

Kennedy Space Center – One hour east of the city on the Atlantic coast. The Shuttle Atlantis exhibit is the standout: the spacecraft is displayed at full scale, tilted as if mid-orbit. More impressive in person than any photo suggests.

Wekiwa Springs State Park – A natural freshwater spring 30 minutes from central Orlando. You can swim in crystal-clear 20°C water, hire a canoe and paddle into the backcountry. A genuine counterpoint to the theme park crowds.

🗺️ Where to go from here

Florida has a lot to offer within a short drive of Orlando.

Cocoa Beach – The closest Atlantic beach, about an hour east. Wide, flat sand and consistent surf. Combines well with the Kennedy Space Center for a full day out of the city.

Tampa – 90 minutes west along I-4. A proper city with a strong food scene, Ybor City's Cuban heritage and Busch Gardens for more rides.

Crystal River – About 90 minutes northwest. One of the few places in the world where you can snorkel with wild manatees. November is particularly good as the animals gather in the warm springs: book a guided tour in advance.

St. Augustine – Two hours north on the Atlantic coast. The oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the US, with a stone fort, cobbled streets and an independent food scene that feels nothing like the rest of Florida.

Norse Atlantic's Gatwick–Orlando route does not run year-round. Prices at this level for a non-stop transatlantic flight don't stay around for long. Check the dates and book.
