💰 How far does your money go?

A cachupa — Cape Verde's national dish, a slow-cooked stew of corn, beans and fish — costs around €8 at a local restaurant. A cold Strela beer on the terrace: €2. You can eat well and drink freely all day for less than €30, which is somewhere around two rounds at a bar in Amsterdam. Food prices across the island run roughly 40% cheaper than the Netherlands, and the gap is obvious from the moment you land.

☀️ The weather

November is one of the best months on Sal. Daytime temperatures average 27°C, with slightly cooler evenings. Rainfall is almost zero — Sal is among the driest islands in Cape Verde, and November sits firmly in the dry season. Sea temperature hovers around 25°C. The trade winds keep the air moving and make the heat comfortable rather than heavy.

🏨 Where to stay

Santa Maria is the main hub, and most accommodation sits within easy walking distance of the beach.

Hotel Dunas de Sal — 8.0/10 · From €70/night
Two pools, a spa, and a garden setting 150 metres from Santa Maria beach. Solid value for a comfortable base with beach access.

Riu Funana All Inclusive — 8.5/10 · From €110/night
Directly on the beach with multiple pools, restaurants and a lively but manageable atmosphere. One of the most consistently popular all-inclusives on the island.

Meliá Tortuga Beach — 8.8/10 · From €165/night
Five-star beachfront all-inclusive with several restaurants, an adults pool and a noticeably higher level of service. Worth the step up.

🎯 What to do

Sal rewards the curious as much as the beach crowd.

Pedra de Lume salt crater — A collapsed volcanic crater filled with mineral-rich salt water where you float effortlessly. One of the more unusual natural experiences in the Atlantic.

Kitesurfing and windsurfing at Ponta Preta — The consistent trade winds and flat water make this one of the best spots in the world for both. Lessons available for beginners.

Snorkelling at Murdeira Bay — A quieter bay on the northwest side of the island, with calm, clear water and far fewer people than Santa Maria.

Turtle conservation at Project Biodiversity — November is nesting and hatching season. The centre runs guided beach visits to see sea turtle activity up close.

🗺️ Where to go from here

Sal is the easiest island to fly into, but Cape Verde has ten more.

Boa Vista — 30 minutes by inter-island flight. Vast sand dunes, emptier beaches, and a quieter atmosphere. The island closest in character to Sal but noticeably calmer.

Santiago — Cape Verde's largest island and home to the capital, Praia. A domestic flight takes under an hour. Colonial history, vibrant market culture and a completely different feel to the resort towns.

São Vicente (Mindelo) — The cultural capital. A 40-minute flight from Sal. Known for live music, colonial architecture and the best food in the archipelago.

Santo Antão — The most dramatic landscape in Cape Verde: steep green valleys and serious hiking with almost no tourist crowds. Reach it via a short flight to São Vicente, then a ferry crossing.

EasyJet's November schedule is already live and these seats will go. Check availability before they do.
