💰 How Far Does Your Money Go?

A bowl of wonton noodles at a Hong Kong cha chaan teng costs around €7, and a local draught beer is about €6, roughly what you'd pay for a coffee back in Stockholm. Dim sum for two at a proper local spot rarely tops €20, less than a single lunch special in central Stockholm. The Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour, one of the best views in the city, costs under €0.50 a ride.

☀️ The Weather

Hong Kong stays warm well into autumn, with September and October sitting around 27°C to 31°C and plenty of humidity. By November it cools off to a far more comfortable 24°C to 28°C, dry and sunny, widely considered the best time to visit. December brings milder, crisp days around 18°C to 23°C, a proper break from a Swedish winter closing in.

🏨 Where to Stay

Three ways to base yourself in one of Asia's most vertical cities.

Ibis Hong Kong Central & Sheung Wan — 8.2/10 · From €65/night Simple, clean rooms on Hong Kong Island, a short walk from the MTR and the ferry piers.

Hotel ICON — 8.7/10 · From €150/night A design hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui with harbour views and a rooftop pool looking straight at the skyline.

The Peninsula Hong Kong — 9.2/10 · From €480/night Colonial grandeur on the Kowloon waterfront, a Rolls-Royce fleet included, for the full old-Hong-Kong experience.

🎯 What to Do

A city that runs on neon, dim sum and altitude.

Hike the Dragon's Back — A ridge trail with sweeping views over the South China Sea, done in under three hours.

Explore M+ — Asia's biggest museum of contemporary visual culture, right on the West Kowloon waterfront.

Drink your way through Lan Kwai Fong — Rooftop bars and packed alleyways, Hong Kong's nightlife in one square kilometre.

Watch Symphony of Lights — Forty buildings lighting up in sync over Victoria Harbour, every night at 8pm, free.

🗺️ Where to Go From Here

Hong Kong is also your launchpad into southern China and the Pearl River Delta.

Macau — Portuguese colonial streets and casinos, an hour away by high-speed ferry.

Lantau Island — Home to the Big Buddha and Ngong Ping cable car, reachable by MTR and cable car in under an hour.

Cheung Chau — A car-free fishing island with beaches and seafood, 35 minutes by ferry.

Shenzhen — Mainland China's tech capital, across the border in about an hour by train.

Under €400 for a return to Hong Kong is a rare price for a route this long. Grab a date before Air China's cheapest seats disappear.
