Osaka doesn't ease you in.
You land, find yourself on Dotonbori at midnight, and spend the next ten days eating your way through one of the most food-obsessed cities on the planet. Etihad flies you there from Amsterdam from €572 return, one stop through Abu Dhabi.

💰 How far does your money go?
Osaka runs on street food, and street food here costs almost nothing. Six takoyaki (the octopus balls that made the city famous) come to around €4. A bowl of pork-bone tonkotsu ramen in Dotonbori is €5. A beer at a bar costs €4. You'll spend less on a full dinner here than on a single round in Amsterdam.
☀️ The weather
Late June and early July sit inside Osaka's rainy season, locally known as tsuyu: 27–32°C, high humidity and regular afternoon showers. The rain rarely lasts long. Evenings are warm and the streets stay busy. Pack light clothes, a compact umbrella, and sunscreen.

🎯 What to do
Osaka earns its reputation fast.
Dotonbori at night: The neon-lit canal district is the heart of Osaka's street food scene. Walk the strip, eat everything, repeat.
Osaka Castle: 430 years of history, a museum inside, and wide grounds that empty out beautifully in the late afternoon.
Shinsekai: A preserved working-class neighbourhood from the early 1900s. All-night kushikatsu bars, the Tsutenkaku Tower, and a completely different atmosphere to Dotonbori.
Universal Studios Japan: Home to Super Nintendo World, the only place in Asia where you can walk into a fully realised Mario Kart experience. Arrive early.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Osaka sits at the centre of the Kansai region. Half of Japan's most iconic destinations are within an hour.
Kyoto: 20 minutes by Shinkansen. Temples, bamboo groves, geisha districts. Worth at least two days.
Nara: 35 minutes by train. Free-roaming deer, Japan's oldest temples, and far fewer tourists than Kyoto.
Kobe: 30 minutes by train. Kobe beef, a European-influenced harbour district, and a quieter pace than Osaka.
Hiroshima: 1.5 hours by Shinkansen. The Peace Memorial Park and Miyajima Island's famous floating torii gate.
Tokyo: 2.5 hours by Shinkansen. Do Osaka first, then Tokyo. Or the other way around.
Two weeks in Japan from €572. This is the deal that turns a trip into a memory.
