One boarding pass. Ten hours. Then 30°C, street food for €2, and a city that doesn't sleep.

💰 How far does your money go?
A plate of pad thai at a street stall costs around €1.70 (60 THB). A cold Singha at a bar is €2.70. That's the same as one coffee in Stockholm. You can eat three full meals and still have change from €15. Bangkok's food prices run roughly 70–80% cheaper than Sweden's, and the gap is obvious from your first night out.
☀️ The weather
October in Bangkok sits at the tail end of the rainy season: 29–31°C with afternoon showers that tend to pass quickly. By November, the cool season is properly underway. Days average 27–30°C, humidity drops, and rain is minimal. Evenings cool to around 22–24°C. Warm enough to sit outside, cool enough to be comfortable. It's one of the best months on the calendar for Bangkok.
🏨 Where to stay
Bangkok has accommodation for every budget. Location matters. Pick a hotel near a BTS or MRT station and the city opens up.
Rambuttri Village Inn & Plaza — 8.1/10 · From €35/night
A reliable budget base in the Banglamphu neighbourhood, steps from Khao San Road and the riverside temples. Pool, good street-food access, and easy tuk-tuk distance from the Grand Palace.
Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 20 — 8.6/10 · From €85/night
Right on the BTS Skytrain line with a rooftop pool and multiple restaurants. A solid mid-range base that puts you close to the best of Sukhumvit's food and nightlife.
Mandarin Oriental Bangkok — 9.3/10 · From €380/night
One of the most storied hotels in Asia, sitting on the Chao Phraya River since 1879. The riverside dining, the Author's Lounge afternoon tea, and the service genuinely justify the price.
🎯 What to do
Bangkok rewards the curious. Temple fatigue is real. Pace yourself.
Grand Palace and Wat Pho — The gilded Grand Palace complex and the temple housing the massive reclining Buddha next door. Do both in a morning before the crowds peak.
Damnoen Saduak floating market — 90 minutes outside the city, a canal market where vendors sell from wooden boats. Better experienced early. By 10am the tour groups arrive.
Street food tour of Yaowarat (Chinatown) — Bangkok's Chinatown comes alive after dark. Roast duck, dim sum, seafood grilled on the pavement. One of the best food streets in Southeast Asia.
Wat Arun at sunset — The Temple of Dawn, lit up in the last light with the river in the foreground. Cross from the opposite bank by a 5-baht ferry for the best angle.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Bangkok is Thailand's main hub. Most of the country is an hour's domestic flight away.
Chiang Mai — 1 hour by air. Thailand's cultural capital: a 700-year-old moat-ringed old city, night markets, the best cooking schools in the country, and easy access to mountain villages and jungle trekking.
Koh Samui — 1h15 by air. Tropical island with beaches from lively (Chaweng) to quieter (Mae Nam). Good snorkelling, decent diving, and far better infrastructure than most Thai islands.
Phuket — 1h20 by air. Limestone cliffs, Phi Phi day trips, Patong Beach, and a food and nightlife scene that runs until morning.
Krabi and Koh Lanta — 1h20 to Krabi Airport, then ferry. Quieter beaches, better snorkelling, and significantly fewer package tourists than Phuket.
Siem Reap, Cambodia — 1 hour by direct international flight. Angkor Wat is one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites on earth, and the city is cheap, easy and well set up for travellers.
Norse Atlantic fills these seats fast. Prices at €383 won't last long. Check the November dates first.
