💰 How far does your money go?
Phuket is one of Thailand’s pricier islands, but that is relative. A pad thai from a street cart costs around €1.80. A cold beer at a beach bar runs €2. A full sit-down meal at a local restaurant lands between €3 and €5. What a single round of drinks costs in Stockholm covers a full day of eating in Phuket.
☀️ The weather
November and December are the strongest months in this travel window. The southwest monsoon clears, skies open up, and the Andaman Sea settles into calm, swimmable blue. Temperatures hold between 28°C and 31°C through the day. October is the tail end of the rainy season: warm, with heavier showers early in the month that ease towards November. If you have flexibility, late November through December is the safest bet for uninterrupted sunshine.
🏨 Where to stay
Phuket runs from hostel dorms to some of the finest resort pools in Asia. Three options at different levels:
Ibis Phuket Patong · 8.2/10 · From €40/night
Straightforward, clean, and central in Patong. Walking distance from the beach, with a small pool and no surprises.
Deevana Patong Resort & Spa · 8.6/10 · From €70/night
A well-reviewed mid-range resort in the heart of Patong. Multiple pools, a spa, and consistently good service for the price.
Anantara Layan Phuket Resort · 9.2/10 · From €280/night
A secluded luxury property on the quieter north of the island. Private pool villas, direct beach access, and one of the most peaceful settings in Phuket.
🎯 What to do
Phuket rewards those who look beyond the beach.
Patong Beach. The island’s liveliest stretch. Jet skis, parasailing, bars open till dawn, and street food at every corner.
Old Phuket Town. Sino-Portuguese shophouses, weekend markets, and the best local food on the island. A completely different atmosphere from the resort zones.
Phang Nga Bay. Limestone karsts rising from the sea, mangrove channels, and the famous James Bond Island. Most full-day boat trips depart from Phuket’s east coast.
An elephant sanctuary. Several ethical sanctuaries around the island offer bathing and feeding sessions with rescued elephants. One of the most memorable things you can do in Thailand.
🗺️ Where to go from here
Phuket is the gateway to one of the world’s best island chains.
Phi Phi Islands. A speedboat from Phuket reaches Maya Bay and Phi Phi Don in around 90 minutes. One of the most photogenic places in Southeast Asia.
Krabi. A 1.5-hour ferry east. Railay Beach, sea kayaking through limestone caves, and a calmer pace than Phuket.
Koh Lanta. Two to three hours south by ferry. Long beaches, low-key atmosphere, and far fewer crowds.
Koh Yao Noi. Thirty minutes by long-tail boat from Phuket’s east coast. Rubber plantations, rice fields, and almost no tourists.
Similan Islands. A speedboat day trip north of Phuket. Some of the best snorkelling and diving in Thailand, open between October and May.
Norse Atlantic’s direct service from Stockholm is not a regular fixture in the market. Availability is limited. Check the example dates and book while the price holds.
