💰 How far does your money go?

Buenos Aires is one of the best-value capital cities in the world right now. A craft beer in a bar costs around €3.50. A full steak dinner at a traditional parrilla runs €25–27, including wine. That is roughly what you'd pay for a Wiener Schnitzel with sides back home, but with a 400g cut of Argentine beef and a Malbec thrown in.

Street food is even cheaper: a choripán (chorizo sandwich from a street grill) costs about €4. A coffee and medialunas at a neighbourhood café is around €3.

☀️ The weather

Buenos Aires sits in the Southern Hemisphere, so November through March is summer here. Temperatures in November range from 17°C to 30°C as spring tips into summer. January and February are the hottest months, regularly hitting 28–32°C. March stays warm at 18–27°C, with fewer crowds than peak summer.

🏨 Where to stay

From boutique guesthouses to grand palaces, Buenos Aires does accommodation well at every price point.

NH Buenos Aires City, 8.2/10 · From €45/night Central location, clean rooms, and an Argentine breakfast included. Perfect if you want to spend money on food and nights out, not the hotel.

Fierro Hotel Buenos Aires, 8.7/10 · From €90/night A favourite with couples. Rooftop pool, wine bar on-site, and sits in the heart of Palermo. One of the best mid-range stays in the city.

Alvear Palace Hotel, 9.2/10 · From €220/night One of South America's great grand hotels, open since 1932. The lobby alone is worth a visit, but if you're going to splurge anywhere, Buenos Aires is the place to do it.

🎯 What to do

Buenos Aires has the energy of a European city and the soul of Latin America.

Teatro Colón: One of the top five opera houses in the world. Even if you don't catch a show, the guided tour of the building is unmissable.

Recoleta Cemetery: Grand mausoleums, leafy avenues, and the grave of Eva Perón. Strange as it sounds, this is one of the most beautiful places in the city.

San Telmo market and tango: Sunday mornings at the Feria de San Telmo bring antiques, street performers, and some of the best empanadas you'll eat. Stay for the live tango.

El Ateneo Grand Splendid: Regularly voted one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world, set inside a converted 1919 theatre. Worth an hour even if you don't buy a book.

🗺️ Where to go from here

Buenos Aires is Argentina's gateway to everywhere. A short domestic flight and the country opens up.

Iguazu Falls: The largest waterfall system on Earth, straddling Argentina and Brazil. A 2-hour domestic flight from Buenos Aires.

Mendoza: Argentina's wine capital, 1.5 hours by plane. Endless Malbec vineyards, the Andes as a backdrop, and excellent parrillas.

Montevideo, Uruguay: A quieter, more laid-back take on Buenos Aires, just across the Río de la Plata. 55 minutes by plane or 3 hours by ferry.

Bariloche, Patagonia: Lakes, mountains, and some of the best hiking in South America. A 2-hour flight south.

Colonia del Sacramento: A UNESCO-listed colonial town in Uruguay, just 1 hour by ferry from Buenos Aires. Perfect for a day trip.

Prices like this to South America don't last. Book the dates, sort the rest later.
